April 27, 2009 – Wisconsin Scenic Byway Opening Ceremony

The Scenic Byway Program preserves, promotes and enhances historic highway corridors in Wisconsin. STH-60, a 100-mile stretch from Lodi to Prairie du Chien, is the first corridor to receive formal approval as a Wisconsin Scenic Byway.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

April 30, 2009 – Green Jobs Roundtables in Milwaukee


Lt. Governor Lawton teleconferenced into a Milwaukee green jobs roundtable hosted by the UW-Extension School for Workers. The event, one of four that will occur across the state this month and next, convened community and business leaders, labor union representatives, and members of environmental organizations.

 

Participants considered strategies to create green jobs in their communities, identified opportunities for collaboration across sectors, and developed action plans to drive toward sustainable economic development. Hosted by the UW-Extension School for Workers, the event was one of four such roundtables headlined by Lt. Governor Lawton throughout the state in an effort to build Wisconsin’s green economy. Other roundtables are scheduled for May 5th in Appleton, May 19th in Duluth/Superior and May 21st in La Crosse.

Lt. Governor Lawton addressed over 200 union leaders at the Wisconsin State AFL-CIO Legislative Conference on Wednesday, April 29 in Madison.Lt. Governor Lawton addressed over 200 union leaders at the Wisconsin State AFL-CIO Legislative Conference on Wednesday, April 29 in Madison.

 

She highlighted their top state and federal legislative priorities, including the Employee Free Choice Act, the prevailing wage provisions in Governor Doyle’s budget proposal, and AB 172, which requires the teaching of organized labor history in high school curriculum.

  

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

April 30, 2009 – Visiting with Students about Climate Change at UW-Madison Professor Pawley’s Class


Lt. Governor Lawton delivered a lecture to students in Professor James Pawley’s Responding to Global Warming courseLt. Governor Lawton delivered a lecture to students in Professor James Pawley’s Responding to Global Warming course at UW-Madison. She discussed her own Green Economy Agenda and surveyed state and federal efforts to curb global climate change. She previewed the impending debate in the U.S. Congress about a cap and trade program for carbon dioxide emissions.  And she lamented Professor Pawley’s retirement!
