Monday, 16 February, 2009 – Make Mine a Million $ Business Race
Lt. Governor Lawton celebrated the contributions of Wisconsin women business owners with the launch of Make Mine a Million $ Business Race at the Wisconsin Department of Commerce Monday. The event highlighted the significant contributions Wisconsin women have made to the state economy with growing revenues and job creation.

The Make Mine a Million $ Business Race is a year-long business growth “marathon” designed to network ambitious women entrepreneurs and connect them to the tools and resources they need to hit the $1 million milestone in one year. The Grand Prize winner will receive a $100,000 cash award and a year’s worth of free advertising, marketing and media opportunities.
Count-Me-In for Women’s Economic Independence sponsors the event; co-founder Nell Merlino provided the keynote address.

Tuesday, 17 February, 2009 – 32nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team Sendoff
Lt. Governor Lawton joined Wisconsin congressional members, state legislators and other state officials to wish the 32nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team well as it departs for Iraq. This was the largest deployment of Wisconsin Guard troops since World War II, with troops coming from every part of the state. The soldiers of the 32nd Brigade are expected to return from a ten-month tour of duty in Iraq in early 2010.
Tuesday, 17 February, 2009 – Budget Address
Lt. Governor Lawton attended Governor Jim Doyle’s 2009 Budget Address on Tuesday evening where he proposed a budget to deal with the state’s $5.7 billion shortfall.
Wednesday, 18 February, 2009 – Madison District Nurses Association Legislative Breakfast
Lt. Governor Lawton addressed Madison-area nurses at the 10th annual Madison District Nurses Association Legislative Breakfast at the Madison Masonic Center Wednesday.
She discussed the impact of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and Governor Doyle’s proposed budget on health care providers and on efforts to expand access to health care for Wisconsin residents. She encouraged MDNA members to add their voices to the debate over the disbursement of federal funds and budgetary decisions for the Departments of Health Services (DHS) and Workforce Development (DWD) as they are considered by legislative leaders.
The Madison District Nurses Association, a district of the Wisconsin Nurses Association (WNA), works to promote the professional development of nurses and advocates for the improvement of health standards and availability of health care services for all people.
