Lt. Governor Lawton addressed over 200 county officials at the 2009 Wisconsin Counties Association Annual Legislative Exchange at the Concourse Hotel in Madison on TuesdayLt. Lawton focused on the current status of the state’s economy, highlighting regional economic development successes and challenges. She also previewed the economic impact of the federal stimulus package on Wisconsin and encouraged county officials to submit “shovel ready” proposals to the Office of Recovery and Reinvestment.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Tuesday, 10 February, 2009 – Women in Government Leadership Training Graduation Ceremony

 

Lt. Governor Lt. Governor Lawton attended the Women in Government (WIG) Leadership Training Graduation Ceremony Lawton attended the Women in Government (WIG) Leadership Training Graduation Ceremony as the keynote speaker.

 

Held at the Pyle Center, the ceremony recognized graduates of the La Follette School seminar for completing a training program designed to encourage advanced leadership in public service. She discussed the unique challenges facing women in the public sector and asserted the importance of gender-balanced leadership at all levels of government.

 

 

 

 

 

Tuesday, 10 February, 2009 – 2009 Wild and Scenic Environmental Film Festival

 

Lt. Governor Lawton opened the Annual Wild and Scenic Environmental Film Festival at Madison’s Majestic Theatre on Tuesday with a reflection on water and the arts.  Lt. Presented by Patagonia, the Wild and Scenic Environmental Film Festival on Tour is currently the largest touring environmental film festival in the country.  The Wisconsin festival is hosted by the River Alliance of Wisconsin.  More information on the festival can be found at http://www.wisconsinrivers.org.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Thursday, 12 February, 2009 – Arts Education Partnership Forum, New Orleans

 

Lt. Governor Lawton participated in the Arts Education Partnership Forum in New Orleans, LA.Lt. Governor Lawton participated in the Arts Education Partnership Forum in New Orleans, LA. Thursday.  She held up the Wisconsin Task Force on Arts and Creativity in Education as a national model for collaboration to transform curriculums to better prepare children to succeed in a 21st century global economy.  

 

Lawton was joined by colleagues Lt. Governor Mitch Landrieu of LA and Lt. Governor Jari Askins, who lead creative initiatives in their respective states.

 

Above) Lt. Governor Lawton served as a panelist for the Plenary Session Panel Discussion titled “How Should States Respond to the Challenges of Providing a 21st Century Education for All Students?”  To her left is Maine’s Commissioner of Education, Susan Gendron.

 

Founded in 1994, the Arts Education Partnership is a coalition of arts, education, business, philanthropic and government organizations. These organizations demonstrate and promote the essential role of arts in the education of every child and in the improvement of America’s schools.
