Advancing a 21st Century Education

As a member of the National Leadership Council of the American Colleges and Universities LEAP campaign, Lt. Governor Lawton addressed a gathering of more than 100  UW System academic faculty and staff to discuss strengthening liberal arts education in Wisconsin so that outcomes align with what students need to succeed and what employers look for today.

Launched in 2005, the LEAP Campaign is being developed as a national pilot in Wisconsin. Lawton spoke of the need to renew collective understanding of public higher education as a public good, essential for civic engagement in a healthy democracy and vital to the economic well-being of the state and its citizens.  The mission of the LEAP Campaign is to make visible and understood the value of a liberal education—for individuals and for a nation dependent on economic creativity and democratic vitality.
