Lawton as the Grand Marshall for the Jacksonport Thanksgiving ParadeLt. Governor Barbara Lawton served as the Grand Marshall for the 12th Annual Jacksonport Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday. The parade started at the Jacksonport Firehouse and wound through the town and back.

Volunteers collected money for an area family in need and for local charities from the crowd lining the main street of Jacksonport.

The event has become a major charity benefit, and this year raised money for organizations including Habitat for Humanity and the Jacksonport Fire Department. Community members also collected canned goods for the nonprofit organization ‘Feed my People’ that distributes food for the needy in cities across the Midwest.

The parade is organized every year to bring together members of the community and honor the spirit of giving. Every year the town adopts a family that has fallen on hard times – “neighbors helping neighbors.”
