Saturday November 1, 2008 - Fighter Wings 60th Anniversary Dinner
Barbara Lawton attended the 60th Anniversary Dinner celebration in Madison of Colonel Joseph J. Brandemuehl’s 115th Fighter Wing division. The event, held at the Airport-Traux Field in Madison, drew current and past members of the division, former generals in Wisconsin’s National Guard and other dignitaries to celebrate the proud history of this much-decorated group. The 115th is recognized nationally for the integrity and quality performance of its members and for the high level of maintenance and preparation of its aircraft.
Visiting with the Students from Roosevelt Elementary
Fifty-nine students of Roosevelt Elementary in Wauwatosa and their teacher, Mrs. Check, stopped by to meet Lt. Governor Lawton on Friday morning. Included in the group was State Senator Jim Sullivan’s son, Jack. Roosevelt Elementary was built in 1929 and celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2005.
Advocating a 21st Century Education
Lt. Governor Lawton and UW System President Kevin Reilly re-convened a group of business, media, non-profit and education leaders from all parts of Wisconsin to define action steps for implementing the 21st Century Education: America’s Promise campaign.
The UW System agreed in 2005 to pilot a national campaign to improve citizens’ understanding of the deep public value of higher education to our nation’s economic outlook, for individuals and for a nation dependent on economic creativity and democratic vitality.
The UW System agreed to design a pilot for states to implement the national campaign; Lieutenant Governor Lawton both leads the Wisconsin campaign and serves as a member of AAC&U’s National Leadership Council. President Kevin Reilly has placed the goals for this campaign front and center in his “Growth Agenda” for Wisconsin.
UW Energy Hub Conference - Energizing the Midwest: Technology, Policy, and You
Later Friday evening Lt. Governor Lawton spoke at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Energy Hub Energy (eHub) Conference at the Fluno Executive Education Center about creating an efficient energy infrastructure in Wisconsin and throughout the nation. The eHub organization connects UW-Madison students to professionals and careers in the energy sector.
“In Wisconsin we don’t wait for change, we author change,” Lawton said. “We aspire to lead as the clean renewable-energy state.”
