Lt. Governor Lawton spoke with the St. Charles Girl Scouts Troop from Burlington in her office Tuesday. 

Lt. Governor Lawton spoke with the St. Charles Girl Scouts Troop from Burlington in her office Tuesday. She shared her experiences as Wisconsin’s lieutenant governor with the girls, and answered their questions about what it’s like to be a woman in government. Lt. Governor Lawton also autographed the girls’ copies of the Wisconsin Blue Book. Later, the Girl Scouts visited Rep. Kerkman’s office.

 

 

 

 

 

 

July 15, 2009 Lt. Governor Lawton explores opportunities to expand health information technology in Wisconsin

 Lt. Governor Lawton met with GE Healthcare Executive Vice President Russ Mayer

Lt. Governor Lawton met with GE Healthcare Executive Vice President Russ Mayer (pictured left) Wednesday to discuss strategies for expanding the use of electronic medical records in Wisconsin and improving the health information technology workforce.


GE Healthcare, a division of General Electric, designs medical technologies that clinicians use to provide patients with better healthcare. GE Healthcare’s health information technology includes products designed to diagnose cancer more accurately and at earlier stages, specialized surgical devices that aid surgeons in operating more precisely and devices to digitize patient records.

 

July 16, 2009 Lt. Governor Lawton keynotes South Barstow Business Improvement District’s 25th anniversary

 

Lt. Governor Lawton, Eau Claire City Manager Mike Huggins and Eau Claire Economic Development Administrator Mike Schatz. Lt. Governor Lawton joined Eau Claire business and community leaders Thursday to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the South Barstow Business Improvement District (BID), the first BID in Wisconsin. In her keynote speech, Lt. Governor Lawton reviewed a timeline of Eau Claire’s downtown revitalization efforts, celebrating their steady march toward a bold vision that makes the city a lively place to live and work today.  


With 84 BIDs, Wisconsin is one of the leading states in the creation of these districts with the third-highest amount of BIDs in the country. BIDs have created new alliances and introduced new funding opportunities to support the process of downtown redevelopment. BID funds often help underwrite the cost of Main Street programs, support large-scale streetscape improvement projects, pay for program employees and projects, as well as support special events and other types of promotional programs.

July 17, 2009 Lt. Governor Lawton announces partnership of FM Enterprises and Graham Architectural Products

 

Lt. Governor Lawton traveled to FM Enterprises in Merrill Friday to announce the merger of FM Enterprises and Graham Architectural Products, a union that is expected to create at least 60 new jobs in the Merrill area over the next two years.

Owners Todd and Renea Frederick of Merrill started F-M Enterprises in1996; today it occupies a 137,000-square-foot plant in the former Ward Paper Mill on Lt. Governor Lawton visits with Merrill Mayor Doug Williams, Graham Architectural Products CEO Brian Hurley, FM Enterprises Founders Renea and Todd Frederick, and FM Enterprises employee Dale Marquardt. the city's northeast side.

 

Lt. Governor Lawton met the Fredericks four years ago when she visited the plant. "I was moved by their innovative vision and bold entrepreneurial spirit," Lawton said. "That, combined with endless hours of hard work and deep civic commitment to our state, is the theme of this success story."
