The Challenge, which Lawton announced in April, seeks to enroll 100 of Wisconsin’s school districts as Energy Star Partners in the program administered by the federal Environmental Protection Agency.

		<description>Lt. Governor Lawton headed to Buffalo, New York, for the annual meeting of the National Lieutenant Governors Association (NLGA).

 

She followed up on her successful policy work at last year’s meeting with the “Better Health Care for All” resolution pledging the nation’s lieutenant governors to support legislation that will give all Americans access to quality, affordable health care through a variety of strategies. Lt. Governor Lawton authored the resolution, which she then sponsored, along with Lt. Governor James Aiona (R-Hawaii). More than half of the lieutenant governors signed on as co-sponsors, and the resolution passed.

Governor Lawton, along with former First Lady and founder/President of the Wisconsin Women’s Health Foundation, Sue Ann Thompson, made a two-day, four city tour of Wisconsin with the End Cervical Cancer in Our Lifetime campaign. Cervical cancer is the second most common form of cancer found in women worldwide. About 11,000 American women are expected to develop cervical cancer in 2007 and about 3,600 will die from it this year. 

 

The tour aimed to increase awareness about cervical cancer, its prevention now with a vaccine for the human papilloma virus (HPV), its screening with pap smears and its treatment – all part of a multi-state education campaign launched by the National Lieutenant Governors Association. &lt;BR&gt;&lt;BR&gt;</description>

This event is considered the pinnacle arts policy convening in the United States, called by some “the Davos for the arts.” 2007 focus: “Thinking Creatively and Acting Globally – The Role of the Arts in Building the 21st Century American Workforce.”&lt;BR&gt;&lt;BR&gt;</description>
